Musica Angelica

Cantigas, Mysteries and Songs in Praise of the Virgin Mary. This is an ambitious project arising from the discovery of twelve angel musicians on 15th century fresco paintings hidden below the baroque domes of the apse of the high altar of the Valencia cathedral. They were uncovered, analysed, restored and replicas of their instruments were built, and these are the instruments that can be heard in this referential work published in the collection dedicated to the Musical Heritage of Valencia by the Valencian Musical Institute.

The prolific Capella de Ministrers (Carles Magraner) shows with another new CD the sweet moment that is happening, the lucid hangover of the recent celebration of its XX anniversary. If in this same issue of the Bulletin you find out about your version of Dowland’s Lachrimae, this off-road set gives us a disc specialized in Valencian musical heritage or related to this ancient kingdom of the Crown of Aragon, with a repertoire located between the 13th century and XVI. In case there was not sufficient thematic coherence, all the pieces are related, in one way or another, with the Virgin. A luxury program.

The interpretation shows the breadth of records of the Capella, with magisterial moments, very inspired. Decidedly, the Valencians are already a reference in the translation of the medieval repertoire. If the CD comes with an extensive booklet with illustrations of the highest quality, and the notes to the program are written by Maricarmen Gómez Muntané … what more can you ask for? Well another disc of the Capella. Seeing the last rhythm of work, and successes, will not be long in coming, neither one nor the other.
