CdM Academy is a Capella de Ministrers initiative to focus on\u00a0its pedagogical dimension to\u00a0mitigate the lack of studies and dissemination of a repertoire as unique as Uppsala Songbook. The course\u00a0for\u00a0young interpreters and students looks to increase their experience and promote their integration in the professional world.<\/p>\n

This formative and artistic proposal, promoted by the CdM Cultural Foundation and that took place on March 21, 23 and 24, 2018, is a workshop in residence in the line of experimentation around new proposals for the reinterpretation of music. of the past with historical criteria (Historically Informed Perfomance, HIP) and is centered on a compendium of musical pieces from the Renaissance period.<\/p>\n

The activity, carried out with the collaboration of the Generalitat Valenciana, Universitat de Val\u00e8ncia and the European Year of Cultural Heritage (2018), is eminently practical and pedagogically innovative, stands out from the academicism established in the current musical teachings and aims to provide new experiences musicians to all the participants recreating music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque combining praxis, musicological and ethnomusicological criteria that allow to discover and develop tasks related to the interpretation, staging, attitude of the musician in the concert, improvisation, measurement , ornamentation, organology, fictional music, counterpoint …<\/p>\n

At the end of the course, the director of the CdM Academy, Carles Magraner (violas de arco) and the assistant professor, Robert Cases (viola by hand, lute and theorbo), offered along with singers and performers two concerts with the repertoire worked on. place in the Capella de la Sapiencia of the La Nau Cultural Center, on Saturday, March 24 (7:00 pm), and in the Alaqu\u00e0s Castle on Sunday, March 25 at the same time.<\/p>\n

Music in the Valencian court<\/p>\n

The Cancionero del Duque de Calabria (Fernando de Arag\u00f3n), also known as Cancionero de Uppsala, was compiled at the court in Valencia and published in 1556 in Venice by J. Scotto, one of the best-known printers of the time. It was found in 1907 by the musicologist Rafael Mediana in the library of the Swedish University of Uppsala. In the court of the Duke of Calabria music was present in almost all events, as well as poetry and theater; both the German queen of Foix, his wife, and he were very fond.<\/p>\n

At the death of the Duke of Calabria in 1550 in the court there were 36 ministrers (interpreters) and singers, being maestro de capilla Juan Cepa.
